Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, faculty at California State University, Stanislaus made public comments about Kirk鈥檚 death. Members of the public then called on CSU Stanislaus to punish the faculty. On September 24, FIREwrote CSU Stanislaus, explaining that the First Amendment protects speech that others might find offensive, poorly timed, tasteless, inappropriate, hateful, or otherwise controversial. We urged CSU Stanislaus to protect the free speech rights of all its faculty members and students, regardless of viewpoint or content expressed.
