Harassment: Unwelcome conduct that is based on an individual鈥檚 Protected Class status which is so severe or pervasive that it interferes with the individual鈥檚 work or academic activities, or that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive University environment. This definition does not include specific conduct and behaviors defined in UW Regulation 4-3 (Title IX and Sexual Misconduct).

Hostile Environment: A hostile environment exists when unwelcome conduct based upon Protected Class status is so severe or pervasive that it interferes with an individual鈥檚 work or academic activities. The determination of whether an environment is "hostile" must be based on all of the circumstances. These circumstances include, but are not limited to, the frequency of the conduct, its severity, and whether it is threatening or humiliating. Petty slights, annoyances, and isolated incidents (unless serious) will not rise to the level of a hostile environment.
